When the city refused to erect a new stadium for the team, the management hoped that the Southwest could provide a better atmosphere for the franchise. After six consecutive losing seasons as the Phoenix Cardinals, the team was in desperate search of success and changed their name to the Arizona Cardinals. However, even with a new name, the team looked identical to previous Cardinals teams. In the last 12 years, the Cardinals have only posted one winning season, after which they reverted to their typical caliber of play.
With five coaching changes in the last 15 years, pinpointing the reason for the Cardinals atrocious record is difficult. While the building process has already taken many years, the fans in Arizona hope that 2005-06 marks the end of failure, and a new stadium brings in better times for Arizona Cardinals ticket holders.
